Welcome to The Void Deck!

You might be wondering what this website is all about. Well, it’s not about which company builds HDB void decks or which ah pek sits there. This website is about the goings-on of the Internet regarding Singapore issues both close and not so close to our heart. Some of you already know that there are a few good websites out there discussing Singapore issues, like SammyBoy, soc.culture.singapore and Hardwarezone Forums. This site is dedicated to collecting really cool stuff from these sites (and others) and placing them here, at The Void Deck, so that people like you can come down to The Void Deck and read all about them, without visiting so many sites.

Think of us as a one-stop-shop. Just don’t think of us a news website like Channel News Asia. We are not that kind of website. Therefore, please don’t expect us to do daily updates, coz frankly, worthy news doesn’t happen daily. We will definitely attempt a weekly update, if not sooner!

So as a (free!) service to netizens all over, we present NINE distinct sections for your perusal:

Flash - As it says, it’s a flash message for the week to give a quick summary of the week’s events. Not flash our privates lah!

What Others Are Saying – Or WOAS (pronounced whoas!). We will try to get a snapshop of interesting topics being made in other places, grab their links, and place them here for you to visit. These links are generally selected based on several criteria, such as popularity, interest, whether they are hot current affairs, etc.

TVD’s picks – No, not nose-picks, but actual articles that we want to draw your attention to. These are usually specific articles made by netizens in particularly interesting topics/threads or special interest articles made in websites (such as Sammyboy or TalkingCock.com). As such, this usually means these articles are damn gilat! Must read!

Columns - We at TVD shouldn’t be too idle too, so instead of relying entirely on other people for content, once in a while we pretend to be like Straits Times editors and write our own column articles. These articles are usually about the hottest issues affecting us at any given time.

Guest Columns - Sometimes some chosen folks get the privilege of contributing articles to our website. These are our featured guest columns. Heheh saves us work from writing columns lah!

TVD Asks - Every now and then, a hot and burning issue comes up and TVD wants a feel of the vibe or the mood of the nation regarding that issue. So what better way than to emulate those pesky teens on the road asking you silly questions about your shopping habits? None! So voila, a TVD poll!

The Voided Deck - Eveyrone loves comics. Remember Far Side Gallery? Know who’s Clay Bennett? If yes and yes, then you’re in for a treat! We will feature sometimes funny, sometimes ridiculous but always good comics on current affairs. It’s hard work okay, so appreciate it!

Links - We know are not alone out there. There’s a strong community of like-minded individuals out there, so we offer links to them, just in case you don’t know about them yet (and you should!).
Featured Blogs – Blogs, it’s all the rage these days. With so many out there, how do you find out what good, bad or ugly? Well, check the Featured Blogs lah!

Another question you might be asking is, “Who runs the site anyway?” Well, the long and short of it is, WE are 4 guys with plenty of time on our hands. But without further ado, I present to you:

See Guai Lan – Ever had a platoon mate (for the guys lah) who is always the damn guai lan one, always getting the platoon in trouble? Well, think of that guy, coz he’s pretty much the same as Guai Lan. If there’s an issue worth discussing, trust that Guai Lan will be very guai lan about it! In fact, if there were an issue not worth discussing, rest assured Guai Lan will be guai lan about it too!

Lau Ah Pek - Respect your elders. That’s what Ah Pek always says. Afterall, he’s been through both the good and bad times of our country, so basically he’s seen it all. Every had your parents say this to you, “Wait till you’re older, then you know!”? Well, Ah Pek always uses it to basically bully anyone who disagrees with him! But then, respect your elders!

Zhong Eh - Our latest addition. As the name implies, he’s really the Zhong Eh. Don’t play play with him, I tell you. He will huntam you if you just glance at him. Best avert your eyes when he comes around the corner! You’ll usually see him drinking Stout and talking loudly with his kar-kias.

Bo Zheng Hu - Last but not least, is yours truly. As the name implies, I’m Singapore’s take-for-granted generation. I’m the young brash hippie upstart who thinks the government is just not up to scratch. And you know what, they aren’t! Just don’t quote me on it.\

We 4 are the founders lah. Since then we’ve managed to grow a few kinkias! You should know who they are lah, no need to intro… you know means you know, you dunno means you’ll never know!
